Bipolar Abdul

Bipolar Abdul is the co-founder of FLUID/ITY drag family in Doncaster. Currently a monthly LGBTQIA+ club night, the FLUID/ ITY drag family are hoping to expand into a wider community space, taking drag to new heights and community groups, and definitely to places it's never been seen in Doncaster. The collective have worked across the country, taking part in a multitude of projects, and have worked alongside drag artists from across the globe.

The project aims to put together a wide series of events and projects to explore and discuss gender fluidity, gender roles and stereotypes. Creating a space to connect with the rest of Doncaster LGBTQIA+ community. This project is important in creating awareness and dialogue for the community of Doncaster.

True Tone

True Tone is to be a creative community focusing on Doncaster’s creatives. Doncaster, as a town, has limited opportunities for creatives compared to the major UK cities. Through collaboration and motivation we believe that if a community was formed within Doncaster then more opportunities would arise for Doncaster’s creatives to build their portfolios, help one another uplift their businesses and motivate one another to continue to learn, develop and create.

‘True Tone’ stems from the purity of being true to oneself by expressing their inner creator. We want to set the tone of real people, real creatives, real art.

Rasha and August are two school friends who have taken creative routes in their careers. Rasha has a Masters degree in Photography from Nottingham Trent and has been freelancing in photography, video and design for the past 5 years alongside her studies. August is a recording artist, with a bachelor’s degree in Music Production and has released two singles this past year. He plans to continue building his discography, as well as producing a platform to share and promote other artists through music sessions and collaboration.

We will be producing a short documentary to emphasise on the importance of the creative arts industry; the production of this will feature footage from a short series of workshops we will be hosting, an array of interviews with Doncaster’s creatives and a track written and produced by August Charles. The final documentary production, alongside the creative work produced within the workshops, will be exhibited in a venue in Doncaster, giving all attendees the opportunity to feature in an exhibition and gain experience in exhibition curation.

Through hosting this series of workshops and producing the documentary, we aim to help the attendees to build their network by bringing them together and creating a community who are aware of the creatives they can contact, communicate and collaborate with.

Nabeela Khan

I grew up in Doncaster, studied at Doncaster Art College, then Central St Martins in London. Lived and worked in Dorset and now in Bradford. I have been teaching various areas of Fashion design, textiles, sewing and weaving classes together with different cookery classes for over 25 years.

I love fabric recycling and creating new from old whether it be a bag from an old curtain or a rug from old socks!

My project

I would like to propose a project where students would be able to create a multi textured fibre art wall hanging with meaning to its creator.

Through researching what is important to them, they will gather together fabrics, yarns, garments, beads, scarfs, wools, inspired by their own cultures, families, work, religion or loves. They will then use these to weave various textures and thicknesses of knot, twist, embroider, crochet, and knit making their own personal meaningful hanging wall art.
